Around Hardinsburg and Breckinridge County

Maplewood is located in historic Hardinsburg, KY, the county seat of Breckinridge County.  You could not ask for a better place to live.

Peacefully set in the middle of Amish farm country, we are about a half hour from Rough River State Park, Leitchfield, Brandenburg,  Hawesville, and Tell City, IN.  We are about an hour from Louisville, Elizabethtown,  and Owensboro.

Our community is very close to Walmart, Breckinridge County Hospital, restaurants, churches, shopping, a brand new library, and schools.

Hoedown Days comes to Hardinsburg every October, with arts and crafts, music, dance, and great food.

Our local EMS company and ambulances are just a stone's throw from Maplewood.  Here they are commemorating those who died on 9/11.

Crime Very Low in County

Breckinridge County is a safe place to live, according to the Hardinsburg police chief, county sheriff, and other local officials. A major crime is 700 times less likely to be committed here than in other counties in Kentucky, based on statewide averages. In the picture, a deputy sheriff and first responders explain to Maplewood kids how they are here to help us.

Breckinridge County

Breckinridge County is in west central Kentucky 65 miles southwest of Louisville, and 45 miles east of Owensboro, on US Hwy 60.  The county borders the historic Ohio River.

Breckinridge County High School (pictured below), Middle School, and Elementary School, are all in Hardinsburg.  School buses meet the kids right at the front of Maplewood. The high school is rated "Distinguished/Progressing," scoring better than 90% of the schools in the state.  The entire school district is rated "Proficient."

Rough River State Park is a natural wonderland in our back yard.

Recreations of the War Between the States remind us of our heritage.

A Simple Life

The Amish call it "Plain and simple."  We call it the Maplewood way.  Our community of Hardinsburg is in the country, yet we still have the county hospital, churches, a new library, Walmart, and great schools.

Do you like to see the stars at night?  Stroll down the road and talk to your neighbors?  Share recipes and gardening tips with friends?  Drive down country roads and take in the gorgeous scenery?  You can find it all here.

Boating, fishing, hunting, swimming, and golfing are all near by.  Or maybe you prefer to look for bargains at consignment stores or roadside stands.  It's all in our back yard!

There are activities for the kids too, from swimming at the community pool, to school sports.

The Fighting Tigers are the pride of Breckinridge County. In addition to the acclaimed high school, an excellent middle school and elementary school are also very close to Maplewood.

Our new library is just a short two-block walk.  The tower over the kids room is designed like a corn silo.

Kids of all ages enjoy the lake at Rough River State Park during the summer.

Families appreciate the safe atmosphere, as tneir kids quickly make friends.
